The Impact of COVID-19 on the Mental Health of Filipina Mothers
The purpose of this explanatory sequential mixed method study is to identify the multi-level factors that are associated with depression and anxiety among Filipina mothers and gain a more comprehensive understanding of the mental health of Filipina mothers during the
COVID-19 pandemic.
Conceptual Framework
Given the unique positionality of Filipina/o/x Americans (FilAms) in the U.S.,
this explanatory sequential mixed method study uses:
Sikolohiyang Pilipino (Enriquez, 1982),
Postcolonial Psychology of Filipinos (David, 2013),
and Intersectionality (Crenshaw, 1989) as a conceptual framework.
Phase 1: Survey
This online survey takes approximately 20-25 minutes to complete. The survey seeks to identify what multi-level factors are associated with depression and anxiety among Filipina mothers based in the U.S.
Please consider completing the survey if you are: 1) 18 years or older
2) identify as a Filipina mother with a child ages 15 years or younger
3) Reside in the U.S.

Phase 2: Kuwentos
This secondary phase will include virtual interviews with Filipina mothers with children ages 15 years and younger who resides in the U.S.
The goal of the kuwentos is to gain a deeper understanding of the mental health experiences of Filipina mothers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
